An Urgent Appeal from the Hellenic-American National Council It's Our Sacred Obligation to Support our Motherland Greece
in its time of Need and Suffering.
My Dear fellow Greeks and friends,
The Hellenic-American National Council (HANC) stands in immediate support to
our compatriots in Greece, the victims of the fires and their families.
The picture of Greece in flames, the decimated forests, the burned villages,
the unequal battle with the fires and the pain and suffering you can easily see
smothered on each and every compatriot’s face, bring upon our indescribable
grief. They cause sheer agony for the tremendous ecological catastrophe and the
dire consequences that our motherland and its people we will have to face in
the future, together with questions for the people who orchestrated this
unspeakable scheme of arsons.
The sheer magnitude of this catastrophe is simply unthinkable!
Immediate response to this unprecedented disaster is our national duty. A duty
that we have to share and contribute to, in any manner humanly possible
according to our capabilities and power.
We encourage and appeal to the HANC member-organizations and every
Greek-American and Philhellene, to contribute towards the initiative that
SAE/USA has already undertaken, for the financial aid of the fire-stricken
victims and funding for reforestation of devastated areas through project Plant
Your Roots in Greece, which is under the patronage of the Hellenic-American
National Council.
Our Motherland is in mourning! We are facing a National tragedy! Let us all
unite our efforts. Let us respond to the appeal of the Greek Government and of
our compatriots. Even the smallest contribution can make the difference.
Please make your contributions payable to "Plant Your Roots in
Greece" and send them to:
Chicago Community Bank Acct: # 459-0070-59
234 S Wabash Ave FL2-Chicago, IL 60604-2365
Deposits in Greece:
Alpha Bank Acct: # 143-0021-1-037288
Eurobank Acct: # 0026.0012.39.0100763237
When the current situation is appraised, SAE/USA and HANC in co-operation with
the Greek Government will evaluate and publicize, how and to whom the financial
aid will be sent. A full report will be issued and will be available for
review.
My Dear Hellenes and friends,
Let us show our love and dedication to our Motherland. It is time to act now!
We must assist in rebuilding whatever it was incinerated. It is our duty to the
future generations.
For the Hellenic-American Council,
Emmanuel E. Velivasakis Paul Kotrotsios
President General Secretary |

Greece is up in
flames! Your help is needed now
My Dear Compatriots, IT
is now a catastrophe of Biblical proportions. Fires in almost all regions in Greece
have decimated forests, torched hundreds of homes and wiped out the entire
livelihood of hundreds of families.
It
is an unprecedented tragedy. We are
already lamenting 52 dead in Eleia and Laconia. We fear that the number of victims will increase dramatically. The estimate of people trapped by fires or suffering
severe burns is much greater. At least three prefectures, Messenia, Laconia and Eleia, have
been declared disaster areas. |
