Letter to Senators about Resolution 300 Print E-mail
Wednesday, 13 February 2008

Dear Senator____________________________

I respectfully urge you to support Senate Resolution 300, which involves Americas historic friend and ally, Greece.

As per UN Resolutions in 1993 the name of the country is "the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia", or simply the FYROM, until a permanent name is agreed between this country and Greece.

Senate Resolution 300 calls for effective measures to prohibit hostile acts or propaganda by the FYROM government-owned services and discourages misinformation of private institutions that can cause violence, hatred and animosity. Furthermore the content of books, maps and school aids of the FYROM education system should refrain of misleading its youth by perpetuating communist-Tito-inspired fictitious history: http://www.panmacedonian.info/FYROM%20History%20Books.htm

The Hellenism of Macedonia is beyond historical scientific doubt. As a loyal ally of the United States in both World Wars, the Korean Conflict, and the Cold War, Greece deserves the support of the United States. The passing of SR 300 by the Senate would go a long way in assuring the Greek American Community that Greece will be supported against the provocative claims being put forward by the fringe extremists in Skopje.

The governments of The FYROM have argued that the name dispute with Greece would drive their country and consequentially the region to instability. The reality however is that there are other factors contributing to the instability of the country.

One of them is the enmity between the Albanian minority and the Slavic majority. The Ohrid agreement, for the implementation to give the Albanian minority equal rights, due to which the government of the United States in 2004 recognized FYROM as Macedonia, has not brought the two communities any closer. They still do not talk to each other, do not learn each others language, they learn different history, and intensely resent each other, facts which promote immense instability in the region. Furthermore, members of the government do not talk to their own President.

Supporting Senate Resolution 300 might disappoint the 38,051 throughout the United States who unjustifiably claim a Macedonian ethnicity: (2000 USA

Census Bureau http://www.euroamericans.net/macedonian.htm ), but will be reaffirming justice to the 1,153,307 or so Greek Americans (see 2000 Census: http://www.euroamericans.net/greek.htm ) who are witnessing the most horrible revision, undermining, and outright theft of their history and heritage. Encouraging the FYROM obstinacy will be a means of generating greater predicaments into this already unstable area. As American citizens who have faith in our government, we are asking you to see realistically how things are in that part of the globe.

Dear Senator, by supporting SR 300 you will give support and strengthen world peace.

Sincerely,
